Senstar, an industry leader in perimeter security solutions, has developed ported coaxial cable (leaky coax) sensors for over thirty years. While based on standard coaxial core geometries, the outer construction of the coaxial cables used by Senstar differs radically from commercial off the shelf coaxial cables. This special cable construction caused Senstar problems in fitting ‘standard’ coaxial connectors to their cables. Senstar highlighted RF performance and mechanical robustness as critical to system operation and ease of use is vital to their installers.
COAX Connector’s design team worked with Senstar to develop a solution that was not only tailored to their cable geometry, but also satisfied their installers’ demands for ease-of-assembly. The specially designed connector featured an elongated connector body and crimp sleeve adding an additional degree of strain relief and mechanical robustness.
Bill Hodgins (Principal Engineer, Buried Cable Systems – Senstar Corporation) commented: “To date, this new connector design has been installed in hundreds of locations internationally. Feedback from installers has been extremely positive. The success of the initial design has led to subsequent designs to suit other cable geometries in Senstar’s ported coaxial cable portfolio”.
