IBC 2018 heralds the launch by COAX Connectors, of the all new 12G 4K “microMUSA” video connector system. Whilst 3G MUSAs have been around for many years now, the revolutionary design of the “microMUSA” with its 12G capability is an exciting advance.
The 12G “microMUSA” panels are available in 32-way, and uniquely, 48-way configurations. Both use the same U-links and patch cords, but whilst the 32- way version has COAX’s 12G BNC connections at the rear the 48-way has COAX’s Micro BNC (HD-BNC) connectors. The Micro BNC with its tiny diameter of only 8mm allows a much higher mounting density, but also brings the benefit of significantly reduced weight. These space and weight saving advancements will prove particularly useful in OB trucks looking for 12G connector performance.
The 12G performance of the “microMUSA” connector system exceeds the requirements of SMPTE ST 2082-1 making it suitable for composite and component video, 270 Mb/s SDI, uncompressed 1080i or 1080p HD-SDI video and 4K UHD (2160P60) video up to 12GHz.
COAX has developed the connecting adaptor jacks that are based upon its already proven 12G technology, but has also worked in conjunction with Canford Audio to ensure seamless integration when mounting within their vibration-resistant plastic blocks that sit within the aluminium panel.
The “microMUSA” U-links have a cast metal body with finger grips, and feature positive locking to ensure correct mating, a newly added feature in relation to a full size MUSA.
